What’s Up with Wiegman’s Hidden Taxes?

The Wiegman Dems have made much of the supposedly low tax increases under their tenure (although they did exceed the state tax cap last year). What they won’t tell you is that the fees you pay for many village services have increased astronomically on their watch. Some have more than doubled!

The truth is that, in order to make tax increases appear to be low, they have saddled Croton residents with extraordinarily high fees, as well as borrowing money for items that belong in the expense budget (such as $4,000 to repair a light pole).

And remember, while your property taxes are deductible on your income tax returns, these fees are not. So their effective cost to you is higher than the cost of services included in the expense budget.

This is not prudent fiscal management. It is not sustainable in the long term. It is an attempt to cook the books and to hide the actual cost of government from the residents of Croton.
